FRIB Environment, Safety and Health Management System (ESHMS) recertified to OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001

04 June 2013

FRIB has successfully completed the annual ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Safety and Health) audits of its Environment, Safety and Health Management System (ESHMS). The FRIB ESHMS incorporates the tenants of Integrated Safety Management as described in the U.S. Department of Energy’s policy DOE P 450.4. During the week of June 3, two auditors from NSF-ISR (National Sanitation Foundation International Strategic Registrations) completed their audit which included staff member interviews and documentation and process reviews. The safety management system audit was a recertification audit, which is a comprehensive look at the system against all parts of the OHSAS 18001 standard. The audits resulted in zero corrective actions, which demonstrate FRIB’s commitment to continuous improvement of its ESHMS. The laboratory earned its ISO 14001 registration in 2006, making it the first unit on MSU’s campus to develop a registered environmental management system.
