ASAC review completed 9-11 November

17 November 2016

The fourteenth meeting of the Accelerator Systems Advisory Committee (ASAC) was held 9 to 11 November.

With FRIB Accelerator Systems Division (ASD) construction and installation activities in full swing, ASAC focused on ASD accomplishments in the last six months and challenges in the coming months. Installation and initial operation of the Advanced Room-TEMperature Ion Source (ARTEMIS) ion source, installation of the radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) and installation of the upper and lower cold boxes received positive review.

Construction and testing of three types of cryomodules, completion of the Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) Highbay test bunker and transport of one cryomodule into the tunnel were also highlighted by ASAC. As a result of construction of three cryomodules in the last six months, ASAC agreed that assembly and testing durations are commensurate with project schedule.

The next ASAC meeting will be held 30 May to 1 June.
