FRIB project advances through DOE Office of Science review

06 June 2013

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC) assessed FRIB’s progress on June 4-5. The two-day review, organized by the DOE-SC Office of Project Assessment, was charged by the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics. Twenty subject matter experts and DOE observers examined the project in five parallel sessions. The committee found that FRIB is making excellent progress, that the project is well-managed, and that it has developed solid and well thought out plans for various funding options and that these plans are realistic and executable. The review committee recommends to proceed with the requested long-lead technical procurement items and to proceed with the CD-2/3A (baseline and start of civil construction) approval process, once the decision for civil construction start is made.
